Olympia Weight Loss

Obesity is a disease, not a personal failure.

Scientific research shows us that fat cells are like glands, producing hormones and other  substances that affect bodily functions.  Along with our genetic makeup, many factors – such as foods, medicines, and stress – influence what messages our fat cells give to the rest of our bodies.  Your struggles with excess body weight are based in biology, not lack of willpower.

Obesity is a Chronic Medical Condition

Obesity is associated with life-threatening complications such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and certain cancers.  A chronic medical disease like this requires a long-term medical solution, not another fad diet.

Your Initial Visit

Your first appointment with Dr. Zechmann will take about 2 hours. You will be weighed and measured, have a body fat analysis done, and will undergo a thorough medical history and focused physical exam.  Blood testing will be minimal – Dr. Zechmann does not believe in ordering expensive testing unless you are not losing weight – then more investigation may be needed.  If indicated, you will have an EKG (a heart tracing) done.  Dr. Zechmann will teach a 45 minute class where you will learn all about obesity as a disease, the treatment plan, medications used, proper protein and carbohydrate intake, and more.  There will be an opportunity to have all your questions answered.

Follow-up visits

Dr. Zechmann will want to see you once a month (more often if you prefer) while you are losing weight.  Once you have lost weight, visits will be less often.
